Recording

Click Record in the top bar to start, and again to stop. Recordings go to your recording folder (normally Videos\Clutch).

Settings → Recording:

Setting What it does
Folder and File name Where files go, and their names. Date codes like %Y-%m-%d %H-%M-%S are filled in.
Canvas Which canvas to record, or All canvases (one file each).
Format MKV and Fragmented MP4 survive a crash or power cut; MP4 and MOV play everywhere.
Remux to MP4 Turns an MKV into an MP4 after recording stops: crash-safe while recording, easy to share after.
Codec H.264 plays everywhere; HEVC and AV1 give smaller files at the same quality.
Encoder Automatic uses your graphics card’s encoder when it has one.
Rate control and Quality Constant quality keeps the picture steady (lower numbers look better; 18–24 looks lossless). Constant or variable bitrate aim for a file size instead.
Preset Performance, Balanced or Quality: how hard the encoder works.
Audio codec, bitrate and Tracks to record Each of the six tracks can carry different sounds (set per sound in its settings), handy for editing.

The easiest way to set the encoder and quality is a performance profile.

Open Clips in the sidebar and set Show to Recordings. Clutch lists the videos in your recording folder, newest first, with a thumbnail, length and date. For each one you can:

  • play, rename, mark as favourite, show in folder, copy or delete it;
  • trim it: Save as new clip cuts the chosen part into your clips (with the game events inside it), and Replace trims the recording itself.

Recordings made while a game was running carry its events (kills, wins), which montages use to find the highlights.
