Scenes and sources

A scene is one layout: for example “Gameplay”, “Just chatting” or “Be right back”. Each scene is made of sources stacked in layers.

  • New scene: the + card under the preview, or Ctrl+Shift+N.
  • Switch: click a scene card.
  • Rename (F2 or double-click), duplicate or delete: hover a scene card for its buttons.

Click + in In this scene (or press Ctrl+N) and pick a type:

Source What it shows
Display capture A whole monitor, with or without the mouse pointer.
Window capture One app’s window. If the app closes and reopens, Clutch picks it up again.
Game capture (Windows) A game. Borderless fullscreen works best. Its sound becomes its own knob.
Video capture device A webcam or capture card, with resolution and frame rate choices.
Media file Videos, music and images. Add several files or folders for a playlist; loop, shuffle, and images shown for a set time make a slideshow.
Browser A web page: alerts, chat widgets, overlays.
Image PNG, JPEG, WebP or animated GIF.
Text Text with font, outline, shadow and gradient, or read from a file.
Color A solid colour.
Application audio The sound of one app, like Spotify or Discord.
Test pattern Bars for checking your setup.

A source can appear in many scenes, and even on several canvases, without being opened twice.

Select a source in In this scene or click it in the preview, then:

  • Move by dragging, resize with the corners, rotate with the handle.
  • Crop: hold Alt and drag an edge.
  • Snap: sources snap to the canvas edges and centre, and to each other, with guide lines.
  • Nudge with the arrow keys.
  • Quick placement: Full screen, Center, and the four corners (handy for a webcam over gameplay). Fit (Ctrl+F), Stretch (Ctrl+Shift+S), Center (Ctrl+E) and Reset (Ctrl+R).
  • Layers: move up or down (Ctrl+] / Ctrl+[), group (Ctrl+G), hide (Ctrl+H), lock (Ctrl+L), duplicate (Ctrl+D), copy and paste between scenes (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V), delete (Del).
  • Opacity and blend mode (Normal, Additive, Multiply, Screen) in the source’s settings.

Every change can be undone with Ctrl+Z.

A media source’s settings have play/pause, restart, previous/next and a position bar. Media and browser sources play through your speakers too, so you hear what viewers hear.
